Winch-Out Service in Tooele, Utah

Slid into a ditch on an icy morning? Dropped a tire off a soft shoulder? Most of the time you don’t need a tow, you need a good pull.

What is a winch-out?

A winch-out is pulling a stuck vehicle back onto solid ground with a winch line instead of loading it on the truck. If nothing’s broken, you drive away.

When do I need a winch-out instead of a tow?

  • You slid off the road into a ditch or snowbank and the vehicle still runs.
  • A tire dropped off a soft shoulder and you can’t climb back up.
  • You’re stuck in mud or snow in a driveway, field or pull-off.
  • You’re high-centered and the wheels are just spinning.

If something’s damaged after the pull, we can put it on the flatbed and take it where it needs to go. More on flatbed towing.

Is it safe to try getting myself out?

Rocking a little is fine. Spinning the tires hard usually isn’t. It digs deeper, heats up the transmission and can throw rocks. And if you’re on the shoulder of a highway, the safest place is usually off to the side, away from traffic, while you wait. Utah law asks drivers to slow down and move over for stopped emergency and tow vehicles with flashing lights (Utah Code 41-6a-904), but not everybody does.

What about off-road and back country?

Further out than a ditch? That’s off-road recovery, and we do that too.
